What in the World is Reece Doing? - July in Mozi
Updated: Mar 21, 2023
Dear Friend,
Mozambique was amazing. God did great things in the lives of the people of Mozambique and in the hearts of the team members that we lead there.
From the red clay roads, to the coastal dunes, to an island in the bay, this July has been packed full of epic ministry. We had two Mozambique expedition teams go out this month. Each team endured multiple days of travel in planes, buses, taxis, truck beds, and even sailboats. They overcame challenges like limited access to water, location changes, or rucking our gear across hermit crab infested beaches. However, these were not the epic moments. The moments that made this month epic were the ones that saw the Kingdom of God established in the hearts of those we were able to reach. It was the black smoke scrolling through the air as the bracelets that were once worn for healing were cast into the fire. It was the dance given in praise as the woman who called out for us not to pass by her house was healed in her hands. It was preaching the simple Gospel to a group that ranged from government officials to an elderly woman who was abused from a young age and seeing it cut to the heart of each one — convicting, healing, saving. It was what God did in July that was epic.
One thing I love about my role in this team is being able to lead people in sharing the Gospel. Both expedition teams were amazing and I consider it a great privilege to have been able to lead them. I thank God that I was able to make investments into the lives of great men and women of God. To be able to encourage those who have walked similar paths to mine, to push young believers to being confident carriers of the Gospel, and to minister to those who left their lives to minister to others.
Testimony:
Costa -
We met Costa at a home where a group had gathered to see how a woman was doing after returning from hospital. Many of them wore bracelets for healing. These bracelets were black rubber O-rings from jugs. We shared about how God is a healer and putting our trust in other things like powerless rubber is a snare of the enemy. Costa did not wear a bracelet but he was invested in the conversation. He posed great questions and shared how even the pastors in the area would use bracelets. Many of the men left to go fishing; Costa stayed longer. You could tell he was hungry for truth. Before he left, I shared how Jesus called fishermen to be his disciples — not the community leaders or great theologians, but fishermen — and told him that God was calling him to follow Jesus. You could tell by his face that this pierced through the arguments and touched him. We saw Costa every day after that; whether it was at the soccer game, bible study, or just to gift shrimp to our camp, Costa found a way to see us. At the end of the week we had a time to pray for people to receive the Holy Spirit. Costa was there. I am so encouraged that one moment of speaking the purpose that the Gospel brings into someones life sparked such a great hunger.
